Am I the only Jalop who's head-over-heels for the Quattroporte IV? To me, it's one of the most beautiful automotive designs ever penned. And they're cheap in the used market now (cheap to buy... certainly not to maintain). But we never got them in the U.S., and that pains me. If we had, there'd be one in my garage next to the Phaeton, and I'd be broke. But it would be worth it.

Apparently Nibbles loves it too.

It's definitely very distinctively 1990s Maserati!

For me the rear view is a little lacking in excitement, but I do enjoy the wedgy silhouette.

I have love for all Q-portes, even the III

They are really cheap in Germany but horrible to maintain. My favourite is the III and the V, both have the ultra classy look. A while back there was a III with a Mopar V8 on BaT, not sure how I feel about it.

I like everything but the rear wheel arch/half skirt thing.

Aww man, really? I think it works with the whole wedge design. But people love it or they hate it.

On the same design front, I love the Ghibli of the same era..

I don't really like any Maserati. Their cars are all ill-proportioned design nightmares.

Although the boxy nature makes up for that just a bit on this one..

Yeah, the Americas missed out on Maserati's entire Bertone era.

Similarly I really like the Gran Sport parked next to it. I think the styling is absolutely fantastic. Shame it didn't have a proper manual because according to TG the gearbox wasn't very good.

Which is the best era I think.. I mean look at those chiseled fenders.. dammit.

You're the first (and hopefully, only) person in the history of ever to say that.

TG is not a reliable source.

I saw one once. Evoluzione model, burgundy, stationed in a business street. Pretty classy (and cool) ride. A few weeks later the owner put it for sale for €22K or something of the sort. It is still for grabs for €16.5K, which really makes me wish I had deeper pockets.

I hate the fact it was given that name.

Fair enough :P
I think I've read that about the gearbox before, I just cited TG because that's what I immediately remembered. Still a shame without the manual though.

I like them!

But it wasn't terribly competitive for its day, especially at its price point. How could a 1980s chassis hack it against the magnificent E39 M5, which it was priced against?

Clarkson on old TG bashed it pretty bad.

The III was a bit too heavy-looking for me. Almost like they took an iron to the 1971-74 Dodge Coronet sedan.

My favorite Quattroportes are the I.V...

They just don't do it for me in the looks department, but to be fair I'm not big on many high end cars anyway that aren't Astons.

Anything Biturbo based is good by me :) although I do tend to prefer the 2-doors myself

Still gorgeous though. I'd like to hear how much they actually cost to maintain from someone who's done it as well. Someone who does his own work, rather than pay for expensive Maserati specialists :)

They did a manual version of both the 3200 GT and the 4200 GT. As far as I'm aware they offered manuals on the Coupe and GranSport as well. They also did an early flappy-paddle jobby, which like all early flappy-paddle jobbies was fairly crap.
